I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mitchel Leavitt at Athens Orthopedic in Loganville. Dr. Leavitt is truly committed to finding and treating the root cause of my pain. He is exceptionally skilled at administering trigger point and bursa injections, consistently targeting the exact areas needed to relieve my shoulder and neck pain. I greatly appreciate the care he provides. He is always professional, compassionate, and maintains a positive attitude during every visit. Thanks to his expertise and dedication, I am now pain-free and able to fully enjoy my upcoming vacation. I highly recommend Dr. Leavitt to anyone experiencing pain. He is knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely knows what he is doing. If you’re looking for a physician who delivers results and truly cares about his patients, Dr. Leavitt is the real deal.
Since I have been receiving treatment here for a couple months now I would like to provide and more detailed/updated review to help others. I am dealing with serious back and spine issues after a work related injury, and picking where to go for treatment was stressful. I used these very reviews to help decide. I narrowed it down between this practice and another well known local option, and I am genuinely glad I chose this place. It has been the right call. Dr Julian Price has been excellent from the start. He actually listens, does not rush you, and explains things in plain language that makes sense. You never feel brushed off. It is also very clear that he communicates closely with the rest of the team, which matters a lot when you are dealing with complicated spine issues. He supports you during your recovery. I also want to recognize Brandon Vlahos, PA C, because his time and effort made a huge difference for me. He spent a lot of time going over my MRI results in detail, walking through each issue one by one, and explaining every possible option to address them. He answered all my questions without rushing and made sure I truly understood what was going on. I know I was very aggravating and he still took his time. I walked out of that appointment feeling calmer, more confident, and honestly relieved about the path forward. The physical therapy team has been really outstanding. Timothy Villamater, PT, DPT, along with Brian Beard, PTA, and Feroz Faiz, PTA, have gone way beyond what I expected from PT. They have tried everything that could reasonably help, cupping, TENS units, heat, traction, massage, hands on work, adjustments, and targeted exercises, and they constantly adjust treatment based on how I am doing that day. It never feels like a cookie cutter approach. Just as important, they have helped me mentally as well. Dealing with ongoing pain and the uncertainty of recovery can really wear you down. There were days I felt frustrated, not in the spirit for a PT session and overwhelmed, and they took the time to reassure me, talk things through, and help keep me moving forward. That support has meant more than I expected. I also really appreciate how detailed their records are after every visit. The documentation is thorough, easy to understand, and quickly available in the patient portal. Being able to log in and review exactly what was done, what was noted, and what the plan is has been extremely helpful. Now the MRI part. I will be honest, I acted like a giant baby going into my first MRI. I was nervous, overthinking it, and not exactly brave about the whole thing. The MRI staff handled it perfectly, calm, patient, reassuring, and somehow got me through it without making me feel stupid. That was a long three hours in a tube. The front desk staff has also been great. Scheduling appointments, making changes when needed, and keeping everything organized has been smooth and easy. On top of that, the office workers comp representative has been excellent. Anyone who has dealt with workers comp knows how painful that process can be, and they made it surprisingly seamless, which has took a huge amount of stress off my plate. What really stands out is how well everyone works together. Radiology, PT, the PA, and the doctor all communicate clearly and document everything well. Having everything under one roof and coordinated properly makes a big difference when you are dealing with ongoing spine and nerve issues. I am still in treatment and dealing with ongoing pain, and may be for a while, but so far this has been a very positive experience dealing with a bad situation. If you are dealing with serious back or spine problems, especially with workers comp involved, and are trying to decide where to go, I would absolutely recommend this team. I am genuinely glad I chose them...good luck to anyone reading this and going through issues like this!
I have always received the best care at Athens Orthopedic. My husband and I have had multiple major surgeries and it definitely has improved our quality of life. Don’t hesitate on knee replacements, you will be glad you did it.
My last review didn’t get posted so I unfortunately get to repost it!!! 🤍 if I could give zero stars I would. Let’s start with the basics, I have a herniated/degenerated disc in my spine, with no surgical correction whatsoever. I lost my health insurance a few days after I received my results. Upon receiving my results, I was told I would have to go through PHYSICAL THERAPY, for months, for a severe spinal injury before any other methods would even be considered. That’s a few thousand dollars they tried to ring out of me for nothing. Upon calling other providers, I was immediately given REAL options and not bs. Furthermore, upon calling these people because I needed paperwork filled out for DFCS I was ignored for roughly a week before I was enlightened to the fact that “doctor” Leavitt was refusing to fill out my forms! So just so we’re clear and everybody is following along- they tried to ring me out like a wash cloth for thousands of dollars I simply don’t have a way of accessing in my condition and then ignored me for a week when the doctor was expected to fulfill ALL of his job description. It was brought to my attention that I haven’t been back to the practice in two years, and thank god for that. Now tell me, in small words so that I understand, why me not visiting in two years would change the fact that I have a severe spinal injury? They expect you to pay $150+ to see a doctor that refuses to fill out simple paperwork and refuses to offer any real solutions to your issue. If you want zero empathy, concern, understanding, reasoning, or common sense and are just looking for a pain prescription, this is the place!
I had surgery here on Oct 3rd for a fractured patella. Dr. Michael Smith was my surgeon. Let me tell you how impressed I was with him. He has the BEST bedside manner, very open & friendly. I saw him on a Thursday and he wanted the surgery done the next day, before my fractured bones had a chance to start healing wrong. . He assured me that he could fix my fractures & I'd do well. My surgery went great, he answered ALL my questions. He truly is a gifted surgeon! All the staff at AOC are amazing. So compassionate & caring. Even the X-ray technicians are top notch. They realize your pain & try to be easy with you. I haven't started physical therapy yet, but have had PT there before, so I know I'll be in great hands there as well. AOC is a one stop shop when it comes to orthopedic problems & I'd never dream of going anywhere else.
